How to Prevent Sports Injuries After Social Distancing

rsz sportsinjurySocial distancing hasn’t been easy for anyone, and we’re all managing in our own ways.

Whether you filled your space with home fitness equipment or decided to take it easy during quarantine, jumping right back into your old workout is risky.

Fortunately, you can prevent sports injuries by following a few precautions.

How to Ease Back into Exercise and Prevent Sports Injuries After Social Distancing

Even if you’ve been working out inside your Ventura home and going for regular jogs, you shouldn’t launch yourself back into your old gym routine.

At home, you were completing different exercises for specific muscle groups. Your body isn’t prepared to go straight back to your typical weightlifting or resistance training routines.

It’s important to start slow.

Do fewer reps at a lower weight to ease your muscles and ligaments back into it.

You’ve probably heard that stretching before exercise is important for preventing injuries. Surprisingly, the research doesn’t hold up: stretching doesn’t prevent injuries.

However, this doesn’t mean that consistent stretching before and after exercise isn’t important. Regular stretching is still good for improving flexibility and balance – both of which can prevent injuries.

Research also shows that wrapping or bracing old injuries – such as your ankle or knee – might prevent re-injury during exercise.

Regular chiropractic adjustments can also improve your mobility, range of motion, biomechanics, and posture. Improving these factors and going easy on yourself when exercising after quarantine can help you avoid injuries.

Gentle spinal adjustments, massage, and other techniques can improve your range of motion, balance, and mobility after a period of inactivity. While your risk of injury is always there, regular chiropractic care can keep that risk as low as possible.
